Director, Network Engineering

This position is eligible to work in a hybrid work model (combination of in-office and remote days).
JOB SCOPEThe Director, Service Transition (CBO) is a strategic partner to the business and is responsible for planning, designing, implementation, and operations of Regional Core IP Networks across the Charter footprint as well as for overall Network performance; acting as an advocate of our customers to ensure highest level of performance of the network, customer experience, and the services the network supports.
The position has oversight and accountability for a team of Managers and Networking Engineering Professionals for planning and executing changes on the network to include new device deployment standards, supporting design activities, capacity management, commissioning and configuration of network elements, as well as escalation support as necessary.
The Senior Director has direct accountability for ensuring processes and procedures are followed and improving upon them as necessary.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The purpose of this position is to provide leadership to the Service Transition, including the following:
Lead and mentor team of Managers and Engineers to ensure compliance and consistency across projects.
Actively participate in and/or facilitate the development of deliverables to ensure changes or enhancements to existing products and processes are performed with no negative impact to Network, Customer, and Service Quality To ensure that the Risk Management and Product/Project/Design Review activities are adequately performed Monitor capacity and traffic patterns to ensure the highest level of availability is maintained.
Prioritize effectively and ensure critical projects or risks to the network are accounted for when planning.
Create, enhance, and enforce process and procedures for teams to follow in order to provide a sustainable and repeatable organization.
To ensure compliance and enhancement to Network requirements; driving standardization and improved Operational performance of devices and the services they support Drive organizational improvements through the Service Transition Intake system.
Create metrics from synthesizing data collected towards bringing clarity and focus to operational improvements ADDITIONAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS Lead teams in the development, documentation and revision control of Core Converged services and solutions to include special projects and strategic network requests Actively participate in the development of Network/Project plans, with a focus on design reviews, quality plans, design transfer, and design verification/validation with the longer term operations in view.
Provide vision and strategy for service and/or network enhancement, network augments and strategic partner initiatives Develop and manage relationships with internal and external customers, suppliers and departments to ensure cohesive and collaborative communication Drive continuous improvement initiatives resulting in increased productivity, as well as scalable and efficient processes to support the operational components of the network Partner within cross functional teams to determine root cause and mitigations of Network or Operational Event management issues Actively partner with the project or engineering teams to facilitate the incorporation of all quality system elements in standards, root cause analysis, corrective action and continuous improvement principles throughout the entire Network Operation lifecycle.
Implement a system to trend quality issues across maintenances to assure unsuccessful efforts are identified and resolution measures put in place while updating the proper procedures.
Implement the Root Cause Analysis concepts to investigate issues requiring Corrective and Preventative Actions.
Lead, participate in and/or facilitate strategic review meetings (as needed).
Review, approve and be actively involved in the maintenance and updates to design history and risk management areas.
Maintain team's compliance to all internal systems as required, such as training.
Directly responsible for development and engagement of employees within the workgroup; Provide leadership to ensure the organization attracts, develops, and retains the best talent.
Oversee subordinate supervisors or managers; has authority and exercise independent judgment to hire, direct, transfer, promote, discipline, discharge or reward other employees, or effectively recommend such action Ability to read, write, speak and understand English Demonstrated ability to manage and execute on multiple, critical projects simultaneously Excellent strategic, leadership and problem solving skills-Strong interpersonal and professional communication skills Understanding of Ethernet, IP and TDM based networks and architectures Understanding of routing protocols, network topologies and Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) Technical Specifications, as well as vision related to Network change or augment while measuring and contemplating the risk and benefit Industry knowledge of Carrier Ethernet and related product suites Ability to lead a diverse group of individuals, ideas and methodologies, and consistently deliver high level designs that follow industry and Engineering standards and best practices Must be customer focused and service oriented Strong business planning and forecasting, analytical, organizational, and problem solving skills Ability to analyze data and develop and present data driven reports, and document, prepare and present executive level presentations PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Vision and desire to succeed while working with a group of diverse personnel under a corporate construct Master's degree Industry and vendor specific certifications and training (Cisco, Juniper, Alcatel-Lucent, etc), (NCTI, SCTE, BCT/E) Experience with operating a large Network team and providing strategic direction in developing, planning, and executing changes in an active network architecture.
Understanding of routing protocols, network topologies and Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) Technical Specifications Experience establishing, documenting and communication of Network Designs, standards and Architecture, as well as customer or network support in a Service Provider environment- Cisco, Juniper and/or Alcatel-Lucent Layer1, Layer2 and/or Layer3 network elements, and network and solution quality control, analysis, event management and RCA methodologies.
