Job Duties and Responsibilities
We are seeking a Corporate Counsel or Senior Corporate Counsel to serve as the lead programming attorney for the Sling International programming group, responsible for securing the necessary rights that DISH needs to distribute foreign-language channels from all over the world to its customers in the United States. The group services the international programming needs of both our traditional satellite distribution platform (under the DISH brand name) and our rapidly-growing OTT product (under the Sling International brand name). The work environment in this department is collaborative, but also fast paced with over one hundred and fifty transactions (new channels, renewals and amendments) closing, on average, per year and a portfolio of over one hundred and fifty contracts to manage.
This position requires 3-8 years of full-time contract drafting experience with a large national or regional law firm or leading corporation. All candidates must be eager to learn and demonstrate energy and a need for achievement. The successful candidate will have a passion for international negotiation.
Primary responsibilities fall into the following categories:
Manage DISH's legal affairs relating to international programming and content acquisition and related matters.
Negotiate and draft complex commercial contracts (primarily relating to expanding portfolio of international channels, new language groups and VOD content).
Review and interpret agreements, company policies and procedures and advise corporate personnel on related legal issues.
Manage outside counsel as necessary.
Working closely with our business teams to accomplish strategic objectives
Assisting with other responsibilities as directed
Skills - Experience and Requirements
A successful Corporate Counsel Sling TV International, will have the following:
Admitted to practice law in at least one state
A J.D. from an accredited law school with a law school class rank in the top 25%
Meaningful and significant full-time experience drafting complex transactions, including as a lead attorney
Excellent communications, project management, organizational, and multi-tasking skills with a passion for the in-house practice of law
A desire to work closely with our business teams on rolling out new technology, negotiating deals, and complying with content licensing agreements
Energy, resourcefulness, and a demonstrated desire to achieve
